Greetings all,
I've recently seen this badge for sale at a reputable auction site that was disposing of the Soviet collection from a prominent collector. The badge reads "Special Detachments KGB", and is made in the same style as the distinguished colleague badge. My basic question is: Is this a fantasy piece, or was there really an award badge made for the Chekists who served in military units (the special detachments). I've only seen one reference to a similar badge -- in Kutsenko & Rudichenko's book on badges of the law enforcement organs. Last edited by CtahhR; 04-25-2013 at 09:41 PM. |

Zastava is correct, it is a fantasy item.
But, the question remains, is there a genuine OO (special sections, aka osobiye otdely, aka 3rd Military Counter-Intelligence Directorate, aka UVKR) badge?? I doubt it. The one in the Kutsekno and Rudichenko "blue book" appears to be this known fake. There are also other types of fakes. I have never seen a genuine one, or a picture of one, or heard of one. here is none in the KGB/FSB museum in Moscow either. All I know of that sets OO personnel apart is maybe the form of their ID pass. And I have never seen a KGB era OO ID, just NKVD era ones. Maybe KGB era ones say nothing as no KGB era IDs I have seen lists the directorate. Shawn |
