Mark,

Thanks a lot, so she was a Machine Gunner not a Medic.

Guys,

I think it's a great idea. This thread is very interesting and I think others would be interested in it as well. One thing, let's make sure the data is 100% accurate. If there is anything I can do to help with the Hero books or OK list I have let me know. Perhaps after the article is submitted I could spice it up via html and make it into a digest article.

Guys,

I think you are missing Erich Mielke - 25/12/1987.

Not sure

Alexei,
Thanks for the info. ;)
I know Erich Mielke was a highly decorated stasi-Chief with amongst other Orders Two Hero of the GDR Stars (1975/82)
Four Karl-Marx Orders (1973/77/82/87)
and a Lenin Order (1973)
but I am at the moment unaware that he got a HSU on the 25/12/1987.
If this is correct then we have 44 Foreign HSU,s.
Is this recorded in the OK book?

Eddie.

No mention of Erich Mielke in the OK book, couldn't find the others anywhere either :(

In looking through the OK book, there is not a great span of time in between unissued awards, so I think it would be safe to say he was awarded either #11561, or #11562. Award #11560 was given on 28/9/1987, and #11563 was given on 6/1/1988.

Strange!

Alexei,
maybe you could give some clarification as to where you got the info.

Eddie.

Gentlemen,

I've read a book about him recently, and according to it, he was a HSU, had four Orders of Lenin, four Orders of the Red Banner, Order of the October Revolution, OGPW 1st Class (sic!), and a bunch of Soviet medals, including the State Border. This made me do a little research on him, and I have found additions to the list of the HSUs in the Cavalier book on page 700. Mielke is the last one there.

Great!

Alexei, Art, Great!

So this means we can add him to our list so we now have 44 Foreign HSU,s.
If he was Awarded his HSU in 1987 that must have been when he was a General, he was promoted in 1980.

Eddie.

Guys,

I contacted one of the authors of the Ordenskaya Knishka "Heroes of the Soviet Union" book and explained our "project" to him. I sent him the list of recipents we are having trouble with. The reply is posted below. Some appear to have question marks next to them so I think it's safe to say unless we see the actual award group we will not have a chance in finding out for sure.

Mr Arthur Bates!
I can give you some information about the Heroes of the Soviet Union , which I know.
The research work is continuing...
Thank you for your appeal.
