A HSU with some foreign medals (Poland...).
I'm wondering what could be this order : The Order of Friendship of the Russian federation ? Ch. Pic : © Christophe – ChR Collection |

Doug!
Compile a list of questions such as that one, together with any others that you can think of. I'll run them by a few collector-associates I know in the FSU, and we will see if they answer with their opinions concerning any one, some, or perhaps all of them. We have nothing to lose by simply asking... I think it would be quite stimulating. Perhaps some of our fellow members here on this forum know some details about this subject also? :cheers Another prewar image courtesy of an associate in Russia:

I'd like to see some photos of Soviet troopers wearing ribbon bars, instead of medals, for reference.
Ideally these would be lower rank officers and enlisted, not mega-marschal's with big fruitsalads. The time frame I'm especially interested in would be pre-1960 with pre-'50 being even more interesting to me. Thanks in advance. Just to get the ball rolling. The first is undated but certainly post 5/45, the second possibly 12/46

A picture of HSU Guards Colonel-General Chuikov, somewhere between March 1944 and April 1945. His ribbons are hard to identify, but at the time he had at least 2 Lenins, 2 Red Banners, a Suvorov 1st and a Red Star. Before he received his second HSU in April 1945 he was awarded another Lenin, Red Banner and Suvorov 1st, so his seventh ribbon must be one of these three orders.
On the right is another picture of Chuikov, same awards, same time frame. |

Here's a nice one courtesy of the one and only Rick Research.
Looks like he's sporting a Red Star, Combat Service medal and a VoG medal. Rick pointed out the holes in his uniform for the Red Star on the right side and the T1 CSM above the bar.

That junior officer shoulderboards pattern is pretty strange. Never seen it before!

Definitely artillery
But the foil pattern on the epaulet looks something like a customs official m43 I have. Maybe it's not soviet.
