Re: Jubilee Medal "50 Years Of Victory In The Great Patriotic War 1941-1945".

Two Georgian 50th Anniversary of Victory documents, #018106 & #018771, named to a couple named Berberyan, an ethnic Armenian name.

Can one of my colleagues please translate the rest of the document for me? Thank you!

The rest of the document is the same boilerplate used throughout the CIS more or less. The Georgian establishing/awarding decree was 23rd April 1995.

I'm sure there are one or more documents to these folks in the collection (which happens to be 1/4 of the world away currently).

Here is a blank #063976.

No doubt this is a fresh arrival from Turkey... I saw this document offered (and passed - far too much with the middle man knock ups) myself but the name is a dead end, I believe a typo.

Mister Serbo Arkadis-dze Anajanovi (სერბო არქადის-ძე ანაჯანოვი).

Thanks much! You are correct to its origin, the price was quite low but of course higher than "Georgia street value." Not really my area of collecting, it was a bundle-mania deal.

Re: Jubilee Medal "50 Years Of Victory In The Great Patriotic War 1941-1945".

As long as you enjoy it. If I could have attributed it I would have picked it up. I searched in three alphabets, with variations but nothing - which is strange considering I can find info on deputies on village councils etc.

I originally got a few Georgian items for said source for a fair price but after asking directly for any additional Georgian items found he was happy to offer me quite a selection as long as he got a 500% mark-up (I know how much these are being offered for in Georgia). I noticed many newly added items being removed from the inventory after informing him the prices were completely unreasonable (compared to in Tbilisi) so hopefully he returned them to the source in Georgia rather than folks in the west paying far over the odds. (Items that go for well under $10 in Tbilisi being offered for $45-50 for example)

With modern communications we should be able to cut out the middle men and have better deals for the end collector.

Re: Jubilee Medal "50 Years Of Victory In The Great Patriotic War 1941-1945".

I don't mind paying more than local street value, as long as the money goes to people in depressed localities like Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia et al. Ideally--yes I would rather buy the item directly from the person (relative?) who is selling to a market, dealer, or another intermediary.. Technology will solve that, but we're admittedly not there yet. There are new apps for selling things, my wife uses Poshmark, and it's a nice user flow from photographing your item on your phone to listing it.

Thanks again for the translation. Love the Georgian patronymics, all seem to be either -adze or -shvili.

Re: Jubilee Medal "50 Years Of Victory In The Great Patriotic War 1941-1945".

For Patronyms s-dze is son of, s-asuli (sometimes shortened to s-as) is daughter of. When it comes to surnames dze is son of and shvili is child of.

Once the shock of the strange worm-like alphabet is overcome Georgian is a fairly easy language to transcribe (specially if typed) as there is only one case. Pre-Communist Georgian alphabets add to the difficulty sometimes, I still have an obsolete alphabet filled medal document that is no closer to being transcribed. That however was filled in in very rural Georgia back in the 1940's. I suppose it could equate in some ways to filling in a form in Latin in the United States.
