Medal For Courage And Sacrifice.
(Medal Za Ofiarnosc i Odwage)
This Medal was instituted by act of Parliament of February 17th, 1960. Awarded in one Class. Conferred to those who at the risk of their own lives, saved or attempted to save human life or property. It can also be conferred more than once to the same person and can be awarded posthumously. This medal replaced the Cross of Merit which was awarded previously for these critaria. The Medal is Silver 35 mm in diameter. On the obverse is a man and woman with outstretched hands in a triangular frame. The reverse has a triangular frame with the inscription ZA / OFIARNOSC / I ODWAGE / W OBRONIE / ZYCIA I MIENIA (for sacrifice and courage in defense of life and property) above are three oak leaves.
