Re: Labor medals for military

"Veteran of Labor" was sometimes given to retiring officers, yes, and I have read of cases where military officers got the valiant labor. I recall one case where an aviation officer got it for service (technical related, weapons systems) in either Vietnam och North Korea.

Why the hurry? Sometimes questions here remain unanswered for weeks and you nag after 9 hours? Not to mention that this question for sure has been brought up - and answered before on this forum ;)

Veteran Of Labour

There are 2 types of the Medal:
- with blackening of the obverse and silver-plating reverse (Type 1);
- no blackening and silver-plating (Type 2).

Please look at the picture attached with 7 Variations of the Medal.

Re: Types and Variations of Labor Veteran Medal

No argument from me.:) Perhaps you could give us some sort of context here. It seems like you are responding to a previous posting that I cannot see.

If I'm not mistaken, the darker version had what gunsmiths in the US call "bluing" applied to the finish.

Re: Types and Variations of Labor Veteran Medal

Guys,

Sergey has been researching the Veteran's medal for quite some time now. Igor Pak made a small summary of some of the identified varieties and published it on the Mondvor site (see link in Auke's post just above), although there seem to be many more variations in existence than simply those detailed.

Re: Types and Variations of Labor Veteran Medal

I already put picture fixed 2 types and 7 variations of this medal. I believe it will be more interesting to collect this medal taking into account that about 39 millions were awarded.

Medal "Veteran Of Labour".

Maybe this is a stupid question and was already answered... but it is new for me...
I was looking at one of my medal booklet for a medal for a veteran of labor and I noticed the inside pages are watermarked with the "CCCP" letters all over. Have you ever noticed this? Is it in all these docs or this is a variation? I haven't had a chance to check my other docs as they are stored, but I never noticed this until I check this specific document. I will try to get pics soon.

Re: Watermarks in booklet for a Medal for Veteran of Labor

Mine does as well. And both my Orders booklet and Medals booklet have them (on the first free page). I think it's standard.

You have similar markings in nearly all official documents that are meant to last - from award booklets to passports.

This is not the prnited watermarks we see in most awards booklet, but the ones you can see only when looking at the light through the page. We can't distinguish them on the scanned images. It makes me curious and when I have a chance to get to my collection binders, I will check a sample of documents.
