Re: Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards/Service Personnel.

That is an interesting picture, showing Austro-Hungarian service covering at least 1909 to 1917.

Here is Captain 1st Rank Fedor Filimonovich Turchin, Lecturer of Party Political Propaganda of the Pacific and later Guards Black Sea Fleet from 15th July 1965.

A Red Star for preparation in attacking Japan, the rest long service/jubilee awards with the exception of the For Victory Over Japan and a late outing of the Korean Medal "For The Liberation Of Korea".

Re: Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards/Service Personnel.

A very strange photograph...

At first glance, You would say "Border Guard from 50's" - has the badge and sewn-on pockets...
But also has officer's belt and private shoulderboards... And the shoulderboards have a weird shape...
Also a private in Border Troops in 1950's would probably not be a War veteran, participant of both war with Japan and Germany...

That itself would not even be so strange, if not for the little things on his pocket... Polish little things:
- Veteran Association pin - could be worn only by the members, and to be a member he wouldhave to live in Poland;
- Polo-Soviet friendship pin - that one is OK, as Soviets could also wear those;
- Miniature of "10 years of the People'sRepublic of Poland" medal - I have never heard of any foreigner ever awarded one - first it was to low a medal and then, unlike later commemoratives, this one was awarded only to state officials withpositive service evaluation, so...

Any opinions?
Some kind of Impostor?
Photographer's fantasy?

Unfortunately there is no writing on the other side of thephotograph.

Yes, really odd. I've never seen a Guards badge worn with a border guards badge or the officer's "Sam Browne" cross-belt worn with private shoulderboards that don't even look Soviet. Could he possibly be a member of a Polish veteran organization?

Re: Photographs Of Recipients Of Soviet Awards/Service Personnel.

I don't think so. Even a Polish veteran of the Red Army with no Polish Army service history would get at least a Grunwald badge. Also a Polish citizen would probably wear the anniversary medal in thecorrect place (right breast) and a medal itself, not a miniature.

The uniform itself is also definately not Polish (even in the Army in the East they used m43 gimnasterki as "non-regulation training uniform"). The BG badge also doesn't seem to be anything Polish.

I was thinking that maybe the boards are of some non-military uniformed service?
