k3rvmfusa Member Join Date: Apr 2002 Location: Omaha, NE Posts: 80	OSOAVIAKHIM According to the Soviet Military Encyclopedic Dictionary, this society was founded in 1927 as a "volunteer society for the masses" with the purpose of joint development of aviation industry, increasing general military preparedness amongst the populace, and civil defense. Comment: it was the forerunner of the popular DOSAAF organization that trained youth in skills as flying, parachuting and tank-driving.
