Order "Partisan Star".

This question is for me one of the biggest mistery's of collecting yugoslavian awards...

I have seen a lot of these soviet pieces around last few years and they all had the serial numbers bellow 10 000 range, most of them right around 9 000... And as we know, only about 10 000 were awarded. Probably all soviet pieces were awarded, and when they were gone, the IKOM started to produce their version. So later the IKOM star was awarded but also not in large numbers, the number stopped at about 23 000 if I'm not mistaken.

So why the hell are these stars seen everywhere... Are there really so few collectors that collect this or what?

And all of these 10 000 stars can't be on the market... Most of them are probably still in the original owner's hands, or were at some point lost by the original owner. So we are talking about 5 000 or les pieces in the collector's market...

Why is it so much easier and much cheaper to get a partisan star, which was awarded only 10 000×, than an EK2 1939, which was awarded about 5 000 000 times and there was even a big quantity of leftovers at the end of the war...

This doesn't makes any sense to me at all...

I'm not an expert and know nothing about Yugo Awards, but from what I've read on this thread it seems to me that it's only (or mainly) a question of offer and demand, as Ron pointed out above.
Apparently, as far as I know, only a very few people collect Yugo Awards, a number we can't compare with the number of people who collect TR stuff, or even Soviet stuff.
And you know that many TR or Soviet Awards collectors have every Variation and/or sub-var of the same Award (just as an example I have about a dozen Soviet Red Banners, other collectors have much more of this particular Award or others, and on the other hand I have only one single Yugo Partizan Star) so I guess that also will help to explain the current rarity of TR or Soviet Awards even if they were made in much bigger quantities than the Yugo Awards.

I don't know, just my two cents...

The perception may be that they are everywhere, but surely no one could have seen more than a few hundred in their whole collecting career. Also, Collectors may tend to resell theirs, so as a consequence the same batch of stars may come around all the time.

In quality, my star doesn't seem of much different quality than other lower yugo awards. My star must be quite a late issue, or possibly unissued stock, as it looks quite new. Serial number 23,668.

Well I quess it's really so few collectors of yugoslavian awards, that everything is available at all times and also very chep.

On the other hand, thank god for this :rolleyes: I quit collecting EKs and soviet orders, I have only a few most famous examples in my collection and that's about it.

Mr. Dolf pointed very well the problem on collecting 3. reich or USSR...

Your star, numbered 23,668 must be an ikom example, mine has the serial 23,561... They were almost certanly unisued, as you said, because somewhere around number 23 000 awarding stopped.

My Monetny dvor partisan star has the serial number 8 925 and it costed me 34 €... So here is another strange example:

Monetny dvor also produced partisan Orders of bravery, they were issued in bigger numbers than partisan stars, as fas as I know at least twice as big... So An Order of bravery costs at the same dealer 100€ and partisan star 34€. :confused:

Hi Mark,
Here is a scan of IKOM mint Partisan Star #26859 at the moment it is the highest number I have in my possesion but I have had numbers in the 28000's range as I stated earlier.

Partisan Star 1st class with Gold Wreath just a few hundreds the Partisan Star 2nd class with Silver Wreath Between 2 and 3 thousand and this would likely include just a few hundred pieces made by IKOM of both classes. This is my 2nd class with the miniature ribbon bar.

Gentlemen,

I have a question about 3rd class stars.

We now recignize two main variations:

- early Soviet-made pieces,
- speciments made by Yugoslavian makers.

What are the distinct chracteristics of Soviet-made ones (besides screwplate nut saying "Monetniy Dvor" or "IKOM")?

The enamel is a dead giveaway. The S/N is engraved vs stamped.

I have a piece in my collection for which screwnut and actual screw seem to have different size of thread. I was curious whether Soviet screwnut was added to a Yugoslavian-made star.

We should also add this info on variations to our summary of Yugoslavian awards.
