Award ID

Visiting Volgograd and descended into an interesting little antique store with a wide range of awards... from mongolian to japanese to north korean... mostly overpriced but 1 item caught my eye andI have no clue what it is...
- red flag on top (incl. a star)
- center with 2 heads facing right
- around the center piece a ring of white enamel with various symbols (e.g. hammer, sickle, etc.)
- then another metal ring
- reverse: pinback with some mintmarks

Any idea? What is it? Good price? Perhaps a link to what you think itis?

Hi Bob,

I think it is the Yugoslavian Order of Labour 1st class.

But, be careful, there seem to be several good fakes here and there.

Here is one seen in Izmailovo Market (Moscow) last month.

Yep - that's it precisely! Didn't have ability to upload a pic for reference (I did take one with digital cam) but 100% sure that's it. Now for a quick price reference... off to google.

Thanks!

Re: Order Of Labour 3rd

I've been wanting one of these for quite a while and I finally got it, along with two nice cap stars.
This award never seems to photography "sexy" but I can confirm it's much nicer in the hand.
The patina certainly looks silver although there are no proof marks on the back (like early Yugo awards had).
The pin is marked ZNB - KOVNICA
It has the "III" for class designation but no serial number.
Enjoy. :)

Re: Order Of Labour

Here's a 3rd I've just picked up. Strangely no-one has posted such an early one so far. This is the 4th in the collection so far. Needs a good cleaning...

Re: Order Of Labour

Nice! Is it marked for content (under the wonderful screwplate)? I wanted to get a screwback, but in the end coudn't addord it.

When I have it in my hands I'll know if it is marked although the other 2 screwback OL3 I have are not marked. I have no idea of what the market value of these are but I've not spent much money at all. If it is solid it'll be worth more in metal than what I paid. Haven't found any OL2 yet though.

No maker's mark on this piece. It is cleaning up nicely though.

Re: Order "For Labour".

A second class document (1965) and two different third class documents (1987 and 1994).

Sorry for the bad scans, but there are thick and rolled in their original tubes -- and therefore don't want to flatten out for the scanner -- and too large to scan all at once, so I have had to stick smaller scans together -- with variable success.

Re: Order "For Labour".

CtahhR,
your order ( in your post #23) is marked Novkanitsa and was minted in Belgrad ( or "Beograd" if you prefer).
