What do we know about the Orders of Mother Heroine?

Hello, comrades! I'm pretty much a noob on this forum, and excuse me in advance if I messed the first impression up with posting here.
I'm Gabriel, a collector from Norway, without a collection (so far), and I love the medals, orders and all the info about them.

But, enough about me... I'm here to ask you guys about the hard facts that we know about all the titles of Mother Heroine.

I'm interested in ever Order and medal on the market, but I find the ones from communistic countries to be a little bit more interesting than others.

But back to the Mother Heroine titles...

I know about the Soviet Russian version, "Мать-героиня".
What is it built from? Were there variations with different materials?

I also know about the Albanian version; Nene Heroine. Does anyone have any information about this one?

And the second last I know about is the Romanian version, "Mama Eroina".
I know some of them were made of gold, some gilded silver and some just pure bronze.

And the last I know about is the Bulgarian version. This one is quite different from the other, because this one is "just" a gold star connected to a pin, instead of the "traditional" versions on silver sockets that we know from Albania, RSR and Soviet Russia.

Well, could anyone bring me images of the different models, and pieces that are confirmed to be authentic?

Thank you very much in advance, comrades.

Gabriel

Re: What do we know about the Orders of Mother Heroine?

Hi Gabriel,

Welcome to the forum!

To be strictly correct Mother Heroine is really a Title and not an order or medal.

On 18 September, 1975, the gold (583/1000) content of the order was 4.5 ± 0.4402g, silver was 11.525 ± 0.974g. The total weight of the order was 17.5573 ± 1.75g.

There are several variations but the materials used to make them remained fairly constant. As with any Russian award one of the best sites to get information, if you can handle doing a bit of translation, is ОРДЕНА И МЕДАЛИ СССР. The site has a section on this award Орден "МАТЬ - ГЕРОИНЯ" - 1.

Eric R. Schena, The Decorations of Socialist Albania: An Introductory Guide, 2006, pp. 55-57 deals with the Albanian OMH.

Thank you, comrade!

An interesting piece of information. Added to my digital library.

BTW; I'm about buying an Albanian Mother Heroine, for 30 USD. Is that a good prize or not?

Re: What do we know about the Orders of Mother Heroine?

Bulgaria took on the Motherhood awards in exact replication of the Soviet system with a "Mother Heroine" Orders "Motherhood" 1st 2nd and 3rd Class and then a pair of Medals. The 2nd Class Medal did not last very long but there are still a large number of Bulgarian Motherhood award variation for collectors including a "For Motherhood" Medal with a spelling mistake on it. The Motherhood awards seem to be rather dismissed and overlooked in comparison to nearly all other communist awards but they are just as valid. The Bulgarian Orders and Medals can very often be bought for as little as a few cents and for as much as $5 each but since the Title is gold you have to pay for the metal.

I would only pay $30 for the Albanian title if it also includes delivery.

Re: What do we know about the Orders of Mother Heroine?

That would swing it for me! Finding documented Motherhood awards can be a struggle. There are also a number of documents that were issued to Mothers when they were awarded various awards. Coupon booklets and travel passes and the such. Additions such as these to a documented group are real cherries on the cake.

Re: What do we know about the Orders of Mother Heroine?

I've contacted the seller a couple of times. I put him to a small test, and he seems to be either copy/pasting something off a page, or a legit dealer.
Difficult to know.

Anyways. He told me that he doesn't remember where he got it from, because he get's some of his goods from random people, and some from ex-Governmental stocks.

Sounds fair enough...

But the Albanian Mother Heroine doesn't seem to contain any precious metals either, so they should be down at a fairly low price. I've read that the title was very difficult to obtain for those in Albania (probably the fact that it was very difficult to live and raise 10 children there, caused by that the regime wasn't the richest and best place to live in)

The seller also said that the people he got his medals from didn't want to sell them with the documents, something I understand. Since if you sell the documents, you sell the whole evidence of that the person obtained it.

Right now, the price is 19.95 USD, + 7 in shipping.
