The point is that if your real Khmelnitsky gets stolen - you are in the hole for $3000-4000 and that money are gone for good, as most of us have no insurance that covers awards.

On the other hand, if something happens to a copy - it could be easily replaced for $100-150.

Trust me, none of the people would know the difference just by looking at the flag or a display.

Rusty.
This sounds crazy, but I've heard of a collector who was buying genuine awards for his marshal/admiral uniforms. I am not talking about cheap items such as Red Banners - he bought Ushakov 2nd class from ******** to put on a uniform...

Can you imagine how much his uniforms are worth today?!?!

Or you could pay the same price as the copy and fully insure your awards against loss...

Dave, could you please post the full information and detailed instructions on the necessary steps (like documenting all the awards + other items) to insure the collections?

Thanks in advance.

Eric

Dave,

Also, how reliable the insurance underwriter is when it comes to claims?

Do you know anyone who actually received money from your insurer in case of actual awards theft/loss?

I haven't known of anyone that has had to make a claim due to a loss to their collection, but I can tell you that both of the companies are very well respected and are known for being good on their word.

Of course! Do you think he just pulled the "$100,000 reward" money out of the clear blue sky?

Eric-

The names are: Collectables Insurance Agency (mentioned in the other thread that Rusty linked) and H.W. Wood Ltd in the UK. Neither company requires an appraisal of the collection.

Insurance

I checked with my company here in Canada, and my collection is covered under my home insurance, I just had to increase my coverage a little. They just wanted me to document my collection and take photos of all the medals.

It added another $10 ($7 usd) a month to my home insurance. Apparently only jewlery and coin and stamp colections require a special rider for theft coverage. I guess my Insurance company has not figured out yet the value of some of these medals.
