Unfortunately, the group isn't all here, but what remains is still interesting.
Medal for Bravery T1-V3 Medal for Combat Service T1-V3 Red Star I have a couple of other suspensions, but these are the only ones with a document. Chuck Last edited by CtahhR; 04-05-2012 at 11:14 PM. |

It's OK. These two suspension medals don't belong to the group either :) |

OK, maybe we can learn something from this. Please share your thoughts. Maybe an inked-in book?

Maybe Eugene thinks the high-number Red Star leading the entries is wierd, and then the washed-out folowing entries is further evidence of fishiness.
But, the book is dated 1953, and the photo shows the guy in civillian clothes--couldn't the high-number ORS be a post-war "catch-up" and then the rest of the awards have been transferred in afterwards? Or is that too far-fetched to be plausable? |

Tim, that's kind of what I thought, but I'm no expert. If this isn't a good group, then I hope to learn what to look for next time. Cruddy-looking books are pretty common.

The order book belongs only to the originally listed '53 RS. Everything else was added by a forger - different handwriting, ink, etc. Original groups can have additions, but they chronilogically make sense, i.e. the book was filled out in '46 and the recipient later received long service awards or unnumbered postwar medals, etc. On this set, there is no way that all those other awards would have been added after '53, especially on the older suspensions. There is no question this is an assembled set.

While I am not trying to dispute the conclusions that this is a put-together set, a post-war book could have wartime awards transferred in, right? In that case, the first entry would be chronologically out of place, but the group would still be kosher, right?

In the case of the group in discussion here, if I were Chuck, I would research the For Valor medal, and see if the award card agrees what's in the book. Why the For Valor? Chances are the Red Star's a long service award, and putting money into researching a long service award with a mucked-with book just isn't worth it. The reason I wouldn't research the Military Merit is that it's probably a non-combat award, and while there's nothing wrong with that per se, I just don't know if he'd be able to get enough out of the award selling it with the research to justify the expense of the research. Just my two cents. Dave |

As Mr. Desantnik says: "There is no question this is an assembled set." |
