Eric
Interesting to say the least.:) The medals appear to be good, but I am no expert on Bulgarian medals. Do you think the bar change was made by the original owner or made up by the seller? the screw backs appear to be too new and not aged as they should be as well as the bar itself appears to be to new:confused: Brendan

Bulgarian Medal Bars
Eric,
here are the two medal bars of Major General Kiril Vidinski. On 11 August 1941, he was dropped off with 22 other Bulgarians on Bulgarian shores by a Soviet submarine after an exile life in the USSR and participation in the Spanish Civil War, to become the core of a resistance and partisan movement. The men had received military training in the Soviet Union and wore Soviet uniforms to be treated as POWs and not as terrorists in case of capture. However, most were arrested and executed. Vidinski survived to become a general in the Bulgarian People's Army. He described his experience in the book "The Submarine Men" (Bulgarian language). His medal bars look just like yours. Apparently, the original medals were used with their ribbons and placed on an aluminum bar. (The two Dimitrov orders are associated one with a Hero Star and the other with a Hero of Labor Star.) These medal bars are so heavy and uncomfortable that they were probably worn only on very few occasions and show no sign of wear. Another type of Bulgarian medal bars is made with plastic, painted on the back, instead of cloth ribbons. They look more professional. Bulgarian medal bars are usually not more expensive than the inidvidual orders and medals, therefore there exists no incentive for fabricating medal bars yet.
