Guys,

I was sorting through my VSKxV medals when I noticed something that has gone complitely unnoticed until now: there are TWO DIFFERENT TYPES of the small gold plated medal. The text on the reverse is completely different, one being what I believe to be a prize medal, the other being a participation medal (obverse is the usual VSKhV one):
. Prize medal: text on reverse above the tractor "За Успехи в Социалистическом Сельском Хозяйстве"
. Participation medal: text on reverse above the tractor "Участнику всесоюзной Сельскохозяйственной Выставки"
I attach pictures of the 3 such medals I own:
1. Prize medal VSKhV, X on tractor grill, screwback
2. Participation medal VSKhV, X on tractor grill, screwback
3. Participation medal VSKhV, no X on tractor grill, pinback
I am working on a renewed classification for the VSKhV medals and I'll propose it for discussion in the next few days.

I'll be interested in your new classifications. I didn't even know there were any classifications. I've got a few variations at home and it will be interesting (for me, anyway) to see where my things fit into your classifications. If it turns out that I have something that doesn't quite fit, I'll let you know and post it for consideration. That won't happen until late May at the earliest, though, after I get home.

Does this mean that early on the large "bronze/brass" medal was a participation award and later became a merit award?

Did participation equal attendance or did it mean a meritorious performance that was not good enough for a gold/silver/(bronze?) medal?

Does anyone have a bronze medal award document from this era?

Note the change in colour from the 1955 version (manilla to green).

The Зак. # on the back also changes from 15429 to 18129.

Hi Eric,

This is a participant's medal of the VSKhV, the forerunner of the VDNKh. There are several versions with and without the X on the tractor grill, together with screwback and pinback varieties.

Next, a VSKV medal... gilt with dark green ribbon. I've seen this medal in my Avers 2, but my version has no year at the base on the front. I have no idea what it was given for.

Hi Eric,

I think the name is slightly wrong. the more rounded M outline in red is actually a T whereas the pointy M actually is an M.

Thus the name would be Teymuraz and judging by the rest of the name is Georgian.

Also his job is senior mechanization engineer and Head of department , machine and tractor station (MTS) and MSKh mechanisation, Georgian(?) Soviet Socialist Republic
