Rocket Troops for Strategical Assignment
Established November 19, 1959.
Has any of you seen this insignia on medals or badges?

My father was in Rocket troops in the 70's so when he get's home I'll ask... I have a pic of him in his uniform but don't remember him wearing anything special...
I'll dig up that pic and post it... Rusty.

1959 was height of a struggle for influence between the rocket forces and the regular army. I would guess that this design was intended to be a new collar badge design but was never introduced.

I believe the first posting represents a heraldic design or logo, and not representative of an actual badge or crest. The RVSN was formally established on 17 December 1959 by decree (see below) creating the responsibilities of, and the organizations reporting to, the Commander in Chief of the RVSN.
Although the RVSN was a full branch (vid) of the Soviet Armed Forces, it did not have any distinctive insignia or branch of service colour worn on the uniform until after the demise of the Soviet Union. The current Russian Strategic Rocket forces (which have been recently downgraded in status from a full branch of the armed forces to a service) have a distinctive insignia worn on the collar and epaulettes (see 2nd image). Below: RVSN decree The current insignia of the Russian Strategic Rocket Troops |

Gentlemen,
I dug up the family photos! Here's the pic of my dad in the get-up right before the 1968 conflict in Check Republic. There were no special insignia per him. This is a photo from around 1967... Take a look at his boards: Here's the close-up of the board: According to my dad, they were PVO attached to Air Force. I also have some more photos of my dad and a bunch of my grandfather. One of my grandfathers photo is dated 5-24-41 in Sevastopol!!! If you guys care to see, I can post some... Rusty.

Great pictures
Rusty,
Great pictures! Your father was in the Check Army then? Please post the photo of your grand father in Sevastopol, that is certainly a nice document for us to see. Did he fought for the Soviet Red Army in the Battle of Sevastopol? Thanks a lot. Dolf |

Dolf,
No, my father was in Soviet Rocket Troops. This photo was taken right before the WWII. He was stationed in Sevastopol and fought there as well as Odessa, Stalingrad, Caucasus, Koenigsberg and was in Germany. He was part of a special detachment reporting straight to Stalin. I'll try to dig up a photo of him wearing the above medals... He's the one on the right. Rusty.
