Railway Award Plaque 1925
Hi guys,
Any idea what this plaque in my collection might have been attached to? I really like the style of it and the language, it captures that early Soviet spirit well. 10/11/1925 Thanks! George |

Re: Railway Award Plaque 1925
This is a very nice plaque to a Ukraine based A. L Shorov.
It may have had a wooden frame and simply be an award as is or not. It certainly is the right size for a Gramophone for example but a Gramophone in 1925? That would have been an honour!

Thanks! Definitely, at this point all we can do is use our imagination...I like the gramophone theory. :thumbsup

I say Gramophone only from experience - http://soviet-awards.com/forum/sovie...tml#post211816.
Perfect for presenting propaganda to the local population when there was not the wireless to fall back on. Could we imagine being presented an mp3 player with a plaque on it in the 21st century?

Re: Railway Award Plaque 1925
I like the theory. I guess at the time, the would've called it the "Patephone."
This trademark name of the "Pathe Freres" manufacturer was widely used in the USSR as a generic name for gramophones. Now you had me looking at photos of gramophones..another object I wouldn't mind owning. ;) |

Re: Railway Award Plaque 1925
You can't beat the sound of a warm 78rpm. Some how I don't think many Soviet gramophones had to chance to play Carl Perkins.
Music is another passion of mine so I'm biased towards the Gramophone idea. I was the first person in Britain to get a laser turntable (still may be the only) but with the price that cost I deserve a plaque! I don't think such a plaque would be fitted to any other sort of tool, unless an early wooden box camera (but a camera would need more skill and resources than a Gramophone). Metallic items would simply be engraved rather than have a plaque attached and there is a finite number of things that would be presented to a railworker, specially back in 1925.
