The period sterling silver, pinback jump wings (with four combat jump stars) affixed to the HQ, 82nd Airborne Division airborne oval is also pretty sweet. A super patina.

While going through some microfilms, I came across two awardings for US personels. I thought it might interest some researchers here. I apologize for bad quality of image. PM me if you want the original image file which is also low, but still allow reading the names.

For outstanding military activities, facilitating the delivery of Trucks carrying military supplies to the northern ports of the Soviet Union during the war against the common enemy of the Soviet Union and the United States - Nazi Germany, and for displaying bravery and courage, the following persons of personnel of the military Navy, reserve military Navy, Coast Guards of Defense, and the reserve of Coast Guards of Defense of United States of America are awarded with:

That appears to be the "standard" list of 190 US Navy and Coast Guard recipients. It's nice to see it all on one page, as even the Izvestia article was split into two segments (and unfortunately, I have yet to find the second half!) As an aside, I got to spent almost 3 hours with the family of a US Navy recipient of an OGPW1 today. Very cool.

A quick check of some of the names shows them to all be US Army Air Force. This is an interesting one I hadn't yet seen before!

Without telling exact name, was it one of the awardee of that 7 July 1945 decree? Could you share with us some of the war-time stories of this recipient?

Yes, he was one of the 190 recipients. He was a career Navy guy; earned the Navy Cross along with many other awards. Absolutely fascinating guy. Even more interesting is that he had cut down the screwpost on the OGPW and the photo in the order book was of him wearing it!

I'd love to share the images of his awards, but I'm afraid the publisher wouldn't take too kindly to that...you're just going to have to buy the book when it comes out. :thumbsup
