Hungarian uniforms 1: general's stuff

Hi Guys,

The first bunch of pics shows a 1973M general's (major-general) tunic with shirt and tie for everyday's use. Two different trousers did belong to this uniform, one for shoes, one for boots. The uniform in my collection is from the middle of the 1980's.

Enjoy, Sandor

General's stuff 2

The second bunch of pics shows a 1957M wintercoat (major-general) for parades. This coat was widely used in the 1960's and early 1970's, in 1976 the Army banned it.

And now the 1987M wintercoat. In 1986 the Army decided to re-introduce the wintercoat. The 1987M wintercoat was too heavy for everyday's use, the military did not like it. In 1993 a new pattern wintercoat has been introduced. The coat in my collection is the 1987M pattern, belonged to a major-general.

Shirts. Hungarian generals had a special shirt for everyday's use (during summer), the 1957M shirt. It is nearly identical with the officer's shirt, only its material is different. They also had a special shirt for field use, the 1965M general's shirt. It looked like the regular version, only the buttons were different, generals had golden buttons.

And last but not least: hats. In 1965 the Army introduced new hats, the 1965M was very popular among the generals. After the system change, in 1991 the hats got a new emblem, but nothing else changed. The 1991M hat served till 2001, when the new pattern caps (the so called Bocskai caps) have been introduced. The Army decided that the old visor hat is too Soviet, and the Hungarian Army needs a cap which symbolizes the traditions. Of the 2001M cap exist two variations, one for everyday's use, one for parades.

Sandor,

Thanks a lot for the pics. It is not that often that we come across a Hungarian general.

Fascinating pictures

Thankyou for sharing. It's interesting to see the obvious soviet influence but with enough fine points to make them nationally unique. On the other hand, there aren't any other hats quite like the new ones.
