General Rudolf Maister
23th of November is Slovenian holiday: Rudolf Maister Day
I'd like to present you first Slovenian general, Rudolf Maister. Who was he? Rudolf Maister-Vojanov (March 29, 1874 - July 26, 1934) was a Slovene colonel in the Austro-Hungarian army. In 1918, towards the end of World War I, he organized local volunteers and took control of the city of Maribor and the surrounding region of Lower Styria, thus securing it for the newly formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. (SHS) He was also an accomplished poet. His campaigners for the so-called northern border are known as Maister's fighters (Slovene: Maistrovi borci). http://www.hervardi.com/images/rudolf_maister001.jpg General Rudolf Maister http://www.hervardi.com/images/rudolf_maister011.jpg Maister watching the march-past of his troops; 1918 http://www.hervardi.com/images/rudolf_maister013.jpg French entente mission in Maribor 1919; from right to left: count Bégouen, general Rudolf Maister and major of French army Gaston Reverdy http://www.hervardi.com/images/rudolf_maister018.jpg Maister with some orders of SHS I don't know if this is the right section to place this but I hope you'll enjoy the topic. I also hope I encourage you to post some pictures and informations about your leaders, generals or other national heros. It would be really welcomed and educational. :thumbsup Do you know which are the orders in the last pic? Cheers, Explorer. |

Explorer,
Interesting reading, although we don't cover Royal period on this forum. As for the medals: - the neck badge is Order of White Eagle, 2nd class - with swords on top. - medal on General's left side - I can't see what it is. I am not sure it's Serbian, as Serbian medals had ribbons folded in the form of a triangle (Austrian fold). William |

Thanks for your reply. Can you post some pics of this Order of White Eagle? Isn't that a Poland order?
