walk-out general tunic
good morning gentlemen;
I need please some lighting about a general grey walk-out mundir. There're not any date on buttons nor in the vest. It looks like a M1969 one, very few wear, shoulder boards like new, silver bullion with a little wear. The buttons: brass , in two parts, no date but one (1975) with the classic "mosschtamp". The shoulderboards have one silver star. I don't know if it is really M69 but wonder about earlier model... I got it at the beginning of my collection (my first general) from a former friend. I don't really think it is fake, but...help me care my paranoïa! thanks, sebastien ps: the visor cap is a post-91 one, ukranian style, nothing to do with

Don't worry...
...its not fake, but it looks like it might be unissued modern ( i.e. 1980's). Do you have a full shot of it?

thanks Doug. I don't have a full size shot, but the jacket it is identical to the M1969 (embroidey, piping, etc). I didn't really noticed this detail at the time, it now interpeals me, i.e. the stars in silver embrodery. It is pre-M1969 regs, isn't it? after 1969 stars became all gold with piping I think?

Chalet,
If there is no cuff embroidery then it is a pre-1969 tunic but judging by the condition it looks like a more modern version. |

yes! I forgotten this point: there's cuff embroidery! (identic to M1969 except for the silver stars). So I'm losing my latin...(as we say here)

Cuffs...
..are the key indicator of the change in 1969. I don't think the change is star color came about until 1974 or so.

Regs and reality
You have to remember, that the Soviets overproduced everything in huge numbers after the war. So the regs might say new boards in 1969, but the old stocks of pre-1969 boards might not be used up for 5 years. Reality took quite some time to catch up to the regulations.

Does the silver vs. gold star dating rule-of-thumb apply to non-general uniforms?
For example, if a captain's M69 service uniform had silver stars (as opposed to gold stars) on the shoulderboards, can it be said that it probably dates to around 1969 to 1974, give or take a couple of years? |
