I just got the green light to go myself and can't wait. I'd have to agree with the above - the SOS is the best show going these days. I hope to meet some of you guys there.
All the best, Doug (AKA the other Doug) |

Doug,
Will this be your 1st SoS? I think we should get a head count of everyone who plans on going. I will be there Friday...maybe Saturday as well. David (wheats101) Quote:

Here's the map of the place, if anyone needs it.
The show is in South Wing A and I believe we can park in Lot A. Rusty.

OVMS Show of Shows 2004
Gentlemen,
Rusty and I made it out to Kentucky (hi y'awl!) This was quite the experience! First of all we decided to drive to the Show from the Chicago area -- 6 hours each way... Let me tell y'awl something, there is only SO MUCH reminiscing about the old prices, the rise in prices and collecting strategy that two people could do. Thank goodness, Rusty and I are friends outside of this hobby, so we had other things to talk about. Anyway, enough about that - let's talk about the show. There were 3 all-Soviet dealers (Atlantic Crossroads, Michael ******, and Rokhman Brothers (new faces)). As usual, it was a pleasure to talk with the dealers, handle some of the more interesting pieces, and of course beg them to "sharpen their pencils" on the prices. The latter was not so much successful ... There were probably a half dozen of disparate "one-off" dealers who has some Soviet Orders and Medals, but the pieces were often fakes and the prices were ridiculous!!! We also ran into Dave (hello sir!) and had a nice review of all the fakes that the one-off dealers were pushing. It was brief but fun. Nice meeting/seeing you Dave! Highlight fake was a hand-made "For Bravery" medal with a rectengular suspension measuring about 2.5"x1.5" and the medal's diameter was about 3". The seller wanted $40-$50 for it... All in all, it was a looooong, exciting, tiring, informative, pleasant experience! We would do it again in an instant!!! Please take a look at the photos below for a better representation of our experience.
