Re: M 55 Shoulder board question ???

Always interested in soviet cloth photos. Cool...had a lot of m55's at one time or another but none with boards like those. Congratulations on the find.

Re: M 55 Shoulder board question ???

Well, the "find" was completely accidental.
The seller had three uniforms that he wanted to sell, and he wanted to sell them as a group. I only actually wanted one of them, a 1955 "Zhukov" dress tunic and cap for a Colonel of the KGB. It was only that tunic for which I had received photos. He had described this one as "infantry".
Obviously, it was not. :chuckle

Well, I think that we're all agreed that the narrow silver boards with red piping indicate Army administration. As Jeff noted in an earlier post, the jacket seemed unusual in that it used the narrow shoulder boards normally seen on the service uniform.

Re: M 55 Shoulder board question ???

Not questioning the originality of this tunic - shouldn't administrative corps have silver emblems?

Sorry for the delay.
Vvadim and others gents, why these shouldeboards don't have any insignia (the shield for justice, star for administrative or caduceus)?

maybe I'm discovering tiedous water, but I noticed some details with theses s/boards.

They're not of the M69 reform because the angle of the inclined superior edge is inferior.

But I noticed the difference in lenght and in embrodery.

here's the details:

on the lower board, the gold colour is more pronounced, the gold is deeper and more patinated; it could indicate a more ancient fabric.
I noticed the gold thread is larger. The patterns are different: big squares on the central rank of the ancient one, more "ovoîd" on the recent (and identical to a 1969 s/board). On the borders, the "rope" is squared on the old one, more "roundish" on the recent.

My guess: the ancient boards come from a 1955 uniform, the others are designed for a M58 jacket.

I believe there have been a huge modification in the industrial process of badges and embrodery... the deep gold-plating diseapared, they certainly created the first anodization processes.... we can see this evolution in the M1955 cap badges, and certainly here in the s/boards.
