Re: Budionnovka - opinons please
Man, what a great lid. If I lived anywheres where there was a winter I'd have a hat like that! :)
Sorry I can't help with authentication Andreas buy yes, it does look really new. And I see *many* copies sold on eBay (as copies). I do know they have the cloth star on the front. I can't remember if they have the old style hammer and plow star on there as well.

Re: Budionnovka - opinons please
Hello Andreas,
I'd like to see it in person, but if it were offered to me based on these photos I would pass. Not that it is a repro, but the material and style look much more like a WWII era bud to me, made (or modified) to look like RCW era. I would not be comfortable with the glassy cap badge either, though perhaps this is just from the camera flash. These buds varied quite a bit for the 1918-1924 era, so I think you just have to go with your vibe on these; opinions on buds from this era vary greatly. What some are comfortable with, others are not, etc. DougD |

Re: Budionnovka - opinons please
i personally have problem with the buttons.
i have never seen cloth covered buttons, certainly no blue. maybe this is just a lack in what i have seen and not. |

Andreas,
I do not like it at all. IMHO, recent manufacture. Marc |

Re: Budionnovka - opinons please
Marc I would also like to know why you think it is recent manufacture. Does this come from you friend who is turning out fake Soviet cloth? You mentioned you have seen the fakes this guy is making and is this one of those items being made.
Without getting this into one's hands it is kind of hard to tell. I dont see anything really wrong with it but I am not a bud expert but have handled a few of them at various shows. Thanks Clete

Re: Budionnovka - opinons please
I'm with Doug. I think it is a late 30's/early 40's bud that someone has messed with to make it look more civil war-ish. Cloth covered buttons are actually standard for the 1919-1922 era but the ones I have from that time look quite different than these. It also appears the background star and button "loops" are of the same thin material which is NOT standard (button loops on mine are usually leather). I question the cap badge also. Even on the inside photo, it looks like the prongs are bright and shiny in cap whose lining shows some sweat staining. If the badge had been there for the sweating, it would be tarnished.

Re: Budionnovka - opinons please
Hmm, I dont know if it looks bad, but Im not sure I would go and buy it if I had the chance.
Although, I havent yet gotten myself a bud, only a mini sized one from Ukraine haha. Im skeptical, despite my lack of knowledge, I just cant place my finger on what I am skeptical of on this one... |
