"Mongolian People's Republic 15th Anniversary" Badge.

I just purchased an example of Badge for the 15th Anniversary of the Mongolian People’s Revolution and was wondering why there is not more information out there about this badge. Does anyone know the total number produced?

I will post a photo when it arrives.

Cheers,
Will

Re: "Mongolian People's Revolution 15th Anniversary" Badge.

I believe there is such little information because the award was cancelled after being delivered to Mongolia. The Moscow mint made a fair few and they just sat in the warehouse until the early 1990's. That is why they are all in close to perfect condition.

Back in the days when things were going crazy these were selling for just over $100. Considering that they're not actually "awards", their value is based on "Ooo, That looks nice!" rather than anything Phaleristic. I'd say a fair market price is between $30-$50 depending on condition and demand. I knew one German dealer had a pile of these he was fairly insistent on offloading not too long ago. €45 each - make your own selection from the pile.

I'd be surprised if this wasn't the example currently in the post....

Re: "Mongolian People's Revolution 15th Anniversary" Badge.

This is pretty amusing! That is the exact one I bought, but It came through a dealer in California and I paid more like 65€. I guess I contributed to a middle man’s profit. Oh well, that is a common story in collecting.

I had no idea that it was never awarded. It is listed in Battushig’s book and I thought it was just left out of Urnukh’s book as it was only a badge. That is so interesting. I wonder why they decided against issuing it.

Any idea the exact number made?

Cheers,
Will

Re: "Mongolian People's Republic 15th Anniversary" Badge.

I have discovered an interesting piece of photographic evidence that may prove that this badge was in fact issued. On page 110 of Urnukh’s book there is a photo of D. Dashzeveg wearing the badge next to his Order of Sukhbaatar. The photo is dated 1981.

There are definitely cases of this badge being awarded.

This badge is much more interesting than it appears at the surface.

Documented proof and much more information to come in due course.
