Unknown banner
Dear all,
I am new on your nice forum. I am a beginning collector of Soviet awards and other memorabilia. At the moment I only own a few medals, orders, badges, militaria and propaganda, but maybe I post my researched ORB one of these days (it has a rather nice story I think). Today I bought this banner on a known auction website. I payed 35 dollars for it, was this a good deal? I already know what was on one side, it says: 'Arms of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics'. Does anyone know what the other side means, and what the purpose of this banner is? Re: Unknown banner
Welcome!! :thumbsup
It's a nice banner, but IMO not made for a specific purpose. The text says: Obverse: Under the banner of Marxism-Leninism, under the guidance of the Communist Party forward to victory of Communism! Reverse: Proletariat of all countries, unite! George |

Re: Unknown banner
Welcome to the forum.
It's a nice old propaganda banner that any good party member would have in their home. I still have my first banner that is similar in scope to this one. Good hunting.:thumbsup Just a word of advice; before you decide on future purchases of awards it is always in your best interest to bounce it off a few people around here. There are lots of (sometimes very good) fakes of all the good stuff these days. Phillip

Hey deValcourt!
Thanks for the additional information and the good advice. I certainly will post my next items I want to buy here first! :thumbsup By the way, what would be the dating of this banner? 70's maybe? |

Re: Unknown banner
Stylistically I'd say '50's/60's.

Hey deValcourt,
I actually don't know yet. I think it will end up in a drawer where I keep some other Soviet stuff (the rest is on display). It's too big to put it on my wall or something, and I'm afraid that the colours will fade. :) Does anyone have some tips for display? |
