Badge "X Years Of The October Revolution".
Nice old 10 Yrs October Revolution badge.
38mm tall, die struck, silver metal w/red enamel detail, one piece, screw post back w/nut. I am curious what's the purpose of those 2 holes drilled in one leg of the X. |

Looks very nice...
I was wondering... Was XX RKKA the first military commemorative medal that was created and distributed en mass? I know about the 3 years of October revolution, but that one seems to be more of a "table" medal and not one that was worn... How come there was not a X RKKA medal in 1928? Thanks, Eric

Well,
XX yrs RKKA was the very first official Soviet medal, prior Russians issued badges for the notable anniversaries. It had something to do with medals being considered as old Imperial regime heritage and not having place in the new Proletarian culture. I guess no one thought that X yrs of the Army was that important of event. |

Looks like fairly nice quality construction. The enamel on the star looks quite old. What is the enamel on the lower ribbon look like? The letters seem a bit thick like on some modern fakes. But on the fakes the enamel is perfectly flat and level with the top of the metal.
If genuine, maybe the holes were to add a new plaque to make it for the XV anniversary?? Shawn |

Here is my set of 10 year badges.
The first one is quite rare as it is in Georgian The second one is similar to new world's (the first posting on this thread) The third one is interesting. It is heavy and appears to be silver and the finish is prooflike and the year is in white enamel. Any ideas what this is? |

Another - What is this?
Hi All-
Here's a badge on the uniform of a Latvian fellow in the Soviet Army. The pic dates from either 1928 or 1938 (I'm thinking the latter, but it's hard to read). This is the best shot I could get of the badge, as it is slightly blurred in the pic. My badge books have decided to go AWOL on me, so I'm at a loss for ID'ing this guy. I think it's a 10-Year long service badge for some sort of Republican (most likely Latvian) labor or military organization. Any clues? Thanks! --Dave Edit- Thanks to Rusty, I got my answer in all of about an hour, and am now posting this in the appropriate thread. Now we all have a pic of the badge being worn! Anyone know what the current value of one of these pieces is? Last edited by Dave; 02-13-2004 at 01:10 PM. |

Badge "X Years Of The October Revolution".
Badge issued 1927 in commemoration of the October Revolution (1917). Three types were issued, brass, silver, and silver with gold overlayment on the "X", of which the following is an example. The two attachment holes and pins for the gold overlayment are clearly visible on the reverse. Some variations of this badge had white enamel inlay in the "ЛЕТ".
