An Unknown Bulgarian

I know it's a long shot but does anybody recognize this Bulgarian? There is no name on the back of the photo.

Boris Karloff (Karlov)?:D

Doc, I came here expecting to have to give somebody a hard time about their grammar, but instead you are actually trying to identify a Bulgarian person...:chuckle

Re: An Unknown Bulgarian

I've had this picture and his medals for a while. I just got around to trying to hopefully get an ID if he was someone of stature. He definately was a man of heroism and hard work practices. I would love to know who he was.

:thumbsup:thumbsup Doc

Re: An Unknown Bulgarian

Doc, what sort of hat badge is that? It doesn't seem military, but it certainly looks interesting. Judging from the awards, the lack of a uniform and his age, I'm guessing he's retired in this photo? And joking aside, he really does look like at least Boris Karloff's brother.:thumbsup

Re: An Unknown Bulgarian

Nicely organized and displayed. The flag and coat of arms are good, helpful and historical touches.:thumbsup

Re: An Unknown Bulgarian

I know the badge is not Communist as the finial on top of the flag staff forms a cross. My guess is that this is possibly a badge from the royal period or, more probably, it is a generic, heraldric badge- it certainly fits the form these often take.

Re: An Unknown Bulgarian

This Macedonian-Bulgarian veteran was in the Bulgarian Army during the Balkan Wars as part of the "Macedonian-Adrianopolitan Volunteer Corps" (Македоно-одринско опълчение).

Attached is the cap badge of the "MOOP". It seems rather strange that this veteran would wear such a religiously decisive emblem during communist rule as the badge clearly depicts an imperial Bulgarian lion with a Christian banner trampling on the crescent of Islam.
