Red Star

According to PMD, the observed serial number range for the type 2, early Monetny Dvor with a screwpost base is 11,849 to 319,702
which yours falls into.

Advise needed on the Red Star

Fellow collectors,

I'd like to get your input on this Red Star order: to me serial number looks like it was changed.

What do you think - was SN modified or not?

Thanks,
William

Well based on the scan I would have to lean towards modified.

Whoever did it was not very subtle.

It does'nt even look like they have tried to hide the fact that the numbers have been removed.

The 7 & 6 do not seem to have been tampered with however maybe they are trying to pass it off as a very low serial number It looks like you can just make out the number 2,9 or 8 at the beginning of the number that definitely looks like it was added later.

The reason that this is a "special" order, is because it is offered as part of a group with another Red Star with a consecutive serial number. So if this one WAS modified, it was done to enhance the value of the lot.

Thanks,

Eric

The Red Star I had a question about is part of the group:
3 Red Stars, 1 OPW 2nd, 1 Bravery medal.

What's interesting about the group:
3 Red Stars awarded to the same person,
2 of Red Stars have consecutive numbers.

If Red Stars have consecutive numbers - they should be identical to the wear patterns, patina, dirt, serial number style, mint mark - but they are not!

Found this ors, the seller says it is made from silver and red enamel and is in excellent condition. The back of the medal has a serial number 3283096. It is complete with the screw-on back plate.

Looks a bit "new" to me and the serial seems weird. I think i could get it for about 20 euros.

What do you think with serial the screw-on back plate.

human-

It's a Red Star that has everything right about it. There is nothing unusual about this award. AND, 20 euros is too expensive (they run $12-$15 around here).

Before you post up more questions, PLEASE look at the references available first! There are literally a dozen sites on the web that you can find pictures of Red Stars like this, with full descriptions.

While we don't mind educating beginners, there is a certain amount of self-education that MUST be applied to successfully collect. I was lucky enough to have lived in Russia and to have dealt with these awards on almost a daily basis. Others, however, have gained just as much knowledge READING books and visiting the various websites specializing in Soviet awards throughout the web.

Happy hunting,

--Dave

hi

Hi. I´ve been collecting for quite a while now and I think that your red star looks great. The difference in price is soo small that I don´t think you should mind about it. Postage from the states are more expensive so I say take it!. In the long run you will lose a little on some and gaine on some. I realy doesen´t matter when it´s about such small amounts. Good hunting and please feel free to post anytime with questions.
Best

Human,

It's a late issue Red Star, and it's perfectly genuine. There is a bunch of awards that never get faked - common variations (high serial numbers) Red Stars, Glories, Badges of Honor, Red Banners of Labor, Red Banners (not yet anyway), Great Patriotic Wars both classes, Labor Glories 3rd class, Orders of Lenin (yeap, but only late variations), October Revolution, Friendship of Nations, most jubilee medals, etc.
