Awards for sale in modern Russian Army

For some people Chechen war in Russia is about serving their country, for some - way to make money.

In Russian Army, if you want just one award or a few - you don't have to do anything heroic, all you need is a bit of cash. Of course, all awards will be given to you officially, with all supporting documents and proper decrees.

Here are prices for some awards:
Caucasus Service Cross - 250 Rubles (about $8 USD),
medals - $20-60,
Valor order - $250,
Hero of Russia (formerly HSU) - $5,000.

If you wish, you can also become an officer - lower ranking officer boards start at $2,000.

If I understand correctly...article gives impression that privileges still exist for holders of Hero of Russia?? - within Russia proper, I guess I assumed most privileges ended with fall of Soviet Union (except I know Putin reinstated some sort of compensation for Cavaliers and HSU recipients)...

the article mentions that holders of Hero of Russia are entitled to generous package of privileges, including:
- free 2 Bedroom apartment anywhere in Russia,
- free car,
- excemption from paying utilities,
- government pension of 10,000 Rubles (about $150),
- 50% break on taxes.

Quite nice package, well worth the price of $5000 that they are asking for Hero set!
