Is Cuba the next frontier?

With relations being normalized between the US and Cuba, does this mean that we will start seeing more Cuban items on the market. What do the members here think. Do we have the potential to be on the ground floor of something or not.

Re: Is Cuba the next frontier

Cuban awards have been getting more and more common on the international market over the last few years (I'm thinking via Spain myself but there are other ways) and the prices have dropped drastically as there isn't that much interest out there. Most of the Medals and Distinctions can be picked up for well under $10, as can some of the Orders. It is fairly easy to complete the collection if one simply has the funds but as there are no serial numbers nor access to research currently it is not going to be a case of lucrative speculation.

If you look through all the Cuban items I've posted on here, all of the items (with the exception of a couple) have cost under $10 - That was before "Normalisation" with the USA.

My personal outlook on the Communist Cuban awards market is that some collectors that bought up items 5 or 10 (or more) years ago will be regretting the wasted money. Good things come to those who wait!

I've seen Hero Stars sell for under $200, so if they are the highest ticket items and the market is now more open there really isn't going to be anything more to collecting than for interest. At least if these awards are available for less money and in number it will be able to open them up to more collectors, at least more than currently. It may be possible to have a complete set for a lot less layout than many other nations.

Re: Is Cuba the next frontier

I am just looking at the next market to get into, as soviet items cost too much for me now. I am looking for the excitement of the hunt again and $400 young pioneers posters do not do it for me.

Re: Is Cuba the next frontier

Cuba is a great idea if you want affordability and the opportunity to collect all of the awards.

That being said, the bottom has almost fallen out of the Soviet Awards market and it has reverberated around items from other Communist nations to a greater or lesser extent.

Cuban awards will still, for the meantime, require a middleman. Finding the right middleman is key.
