Huligan,
I think you've made a mistake. This is type2var5subvar1. And yes, this is the lowest number for this subvariation ;) The lowest number used to be 5926.

Oleg,

You are right.

I have the site saved on my hard drive and haven't updated it in a month or so... Figures, they re-classified the whole RB types and variations.

Thanks,

Rusty.

Guys,

Just found a similar piece. Note the same engraver's hand in the serial number.

7th awarding

This one is in auction, starting price 800 euros.
Numbered: nr. 14. Almost in mint condition.

And before someone asks, of cource, no better scan availeable!

Think what you want...

8th awarding ?

The very mysterious 8th award is in auction, starting price 1000 euros.
Numbered: nr.2 with order booklet to Sergei Ahromejev in 1988. Almost in mint condition.

And again before someone asks, of cource, no better scan availeable!

And shouldn't the fact that it's RB award number 8 be annotated in the document somewhere? I see that the number of the order is documented in there, but not the award number. Now I've had groups where the numbered RB wasn't listed as a numbered award, but it's far more common to see the number of awarding next to the order number (e.g. Red Banner 12345 "2").

Even if we didn't know that the book was a complete fake (which it is) that would still cause some hesitation on my part...

Of course both of them have to be fakes.

As it mentioned here before there are not 8th awarding exist. Also as far as I know there exist only one 7th awarding.

It is sad that one very reputable auction house sells these kind of fakes.
The auction is on saturday and it is interesting to see what they get of these. I hope that they don't get anything!

Jussi-Pekka

Actually, it's not exactly correct statement. About a dozen of 7th Red Banners were awarded.
