Marc,
I would disagree with you regarding the price.
This badge is up to $45.00-60.00
I would buy it for $10.00, even I have it.

Kingsnorth
Also, there is another badge, similar to this badge (I have it in my collection:p ). Soviet Honourable Railway Organization. The badge is 4-5 times bigger than Soviet Honourable Railway Worker, pinback variation, no suspenction, and was attached to a Banner. I am not sure how many was awarded, I think not too many. How many Railway Organizations were in the USSR?
It is available for sale on Russian site now (they don't send to the US) for $1,000.00.
Eric.

An first attempt to classify the military railroad badges:

1st version: small silver one
bestowed 1. Oktober 1934 - possible charge 4.200

lowest number observed: 1.748
highest number observed: 4.177

s/n 1 - 1. October 1934

2nd version (silver variant): large silver one (STALIN - on front of the central-heating boiler)
bestowed 1935? - possible charge 8.000

lowest number observed: 5.282
highest number observed: 11.877

s/n 5.282 - 16. January 1938
s/n 6.251 - 12. October 1941

2nd version (brass variant): large brass one (STALIN - on front of the central-heating boiler)
bestowed 1940? - possible charge 100.000

lowest number observed: 12.422
highest number observed: 111.591

s/n 30.566 - "1944"
s/n 40.477 - 2. October 1944
s/n 66.580 - pre-March 1946 "NKPS" screw nut
s/n 69.317 - 1946 but can't read date from tiny book, but "MPS" stamp
s/n 106.771 - 29. May 1957 (1957 likely 99%)

Maybe they stopped to award the stalin version (2nd version) short after the secret speech of Chrustchow at the XX party congress at the end of 1956. To stop the personal cult around Stalin.

3rd version : red suspension
bestowed ? - possible charge ?

lowest number observed: 112.050
highest number observed: 135.164

s/n 128.808 - 25. February 1974

remarks to 3rd version: I think there are two variants: one with a more green and one with a more blue coloured enamel at the trolley

Any other dates and s/n are welcome

Unfortunately I have no other pictures available.

I paid for my one ~ 40 USD. I think abvout 25T to 30T badges are issued.

Eric,

I totally respect your position. I am simply reporting what they are going for at the place of origin, and more specifically in St Petersburg.

Marc

Alfred,

Any chance you could also post the reverses of the various types of badges you show. Thanks

Marc

Marc and Danny,

yes I have some pictures of the reverse of the badges. I will post them later.

The picture of the different types is from the DIN A4 coloured 3 language version "Art of Russian Metal Miniature, Catalogue of Badges, 1917-1991 from I.I. Likhitskiy.

Some dates and serial numbers are from the ural foto-catalog. Some dates are from other collectors and from my own observation of sold pieces by dealers.

If you have any other dates from documents and serial numbers please post them here

regards
Andreas

Strange to think that so many were issued and so few have been offered for sale by dealers or on E.I renogotiated the price (downwards) and should have it in my possession next week.
