Blue Seas, Red Stars: Soviet Military Medals To U.S. Sea Service Recipients In WWII

For all:

I thought I'd announce that my book on WW2 Soviet medals to the US Navy, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine is finally complete and off to the publishers. The book includes images of 100 of the 217 awarded medals, plus many documents, US medals, photos of recipients, and more. I personally made 112 visits, driving 24,000 miles in 40 states, meeting with surviving veterans and families to obtain nearly all of these images. While I can't say much more about the book (as it is still subject to editorial changes) it should be out and available sometime in 2015. I'll make announcements later as things progress.

Thanks for reading and I sincerely hope you'll enjoy the book when it comes out.

It's must have been a unique experience to interview all those veterans! I'm looking forward to the end result!

I only interviewed a handful of veterans. Unfortunately, only four remain; the others have all passed on (eight of them while I worked on my book!) The vast majority of people I worked with were the veteran's families, and most of them had no idea what the medals were or why the veteran received them (most of the veterans didn't know either, for that matter...)

Re: Book on Soviet Awards to the US Naval Services Complete

Sorry for not posting up the cover as I commented I would! However, I have some better shots of the content now, as I received the first hard copy of the book Wednesday evening! It's been 19 months with the publisher, but it's finally done and should be available for distribution sometime around Thanksgiving or shortly thereafter. The cover price will be $69.99 though Amazon has them now for $42.72, a pretty darn good deal - you just have to wait a month or so before they're available! I'd be happy to answer any questions anyone has about the book or about the topic...post here or PM me.

Anyway, here are some inside shots of the book...enjoy!
