Fake Nakhimov Medals

Hello,

I know - the attachment ring looks a little bit strange... but another question : is the deep area on/ in Nakhimov`s cap a mint mistake, maybe resulting from a mint stamp defect ? Is it a well - know feature concerning this type of medal, or is this completely unknown up to now ?

I have detailed pictures of this medal from several years ago, and I think it's genuine. I also like the ring, which I believe is typical for an earlier piece. At the same time it does have minor differences, that I can't explain. The most interestng thing is a die break on the reverse that I haven't seen on earlier or later pieces.

I've had this Nakhimov for a long time, and always thought it was fake...for a number of reasons. But, my skills are not anywhere close to those of the experts on this forum, so I thought I'd post some photos to get your opinions. The Order had the wrong suspension ribbon on it, and it only set me back about 5 USD about 10 years ago (which is one reason I felt it was fake). The whole thing looks sort of soft to me, not much detail, but never having held a known good one, it's hard to make a call on that.

The Order in numbers:

Weight: 17.2 grams w/o the suspension
Diameter: 36.7 mm
Thickness: 2.33 mm (at the rim where the sn is located)
SN: Stamped - 2625
Rev Dots: 106
Obv Dots: eyes too tired to count!

Some photos/scans below... Not great scans/photos, but my scanner is an all-in-one and it has no depth of field. My camera can shoot 10 meg photos, but not close up! Anyway, there you have it. Don't hold back!:chuckle

Yes, ther medal is a fake with poor detail and a bad serial number.

Yes I know how much its worth and I have no doubt that this medal is original, as you can see from my listing i sell rare medals which are hard to find, all from my personal collection which took me years to build

I wanted to answer ' I have a doubt about your medals, you have to convince me to buy it, you "£$%^!' But I haven't was laughing so hard :laff

The medal itself is obviously fake I think. Please check it out gents.

Better pictures wouldn't hurt indeed, but the medal looks bad.
