Excellent!

Do we have more stats about the book?

Is this a hardcover? How many pages?

What are the chapters?

William

I had the fortunate opportunity to review some of the proof pages a couple of months ago. Needless to say, it is as good as you would expect from the guys who put out the big red book. Not only is there a large array of citations, maps, and photos, there are also lists of serial numbers of the various numbered orders and medals giving the award dates and other salient information. Having this data will be a lot of help in deciding which of those Red Stars you have been holding on to might have the best chance of coming back with an interesting citation. If this edition demonstrates that there is widespread interest in the topic, they are planning to come out with future editions. Needless to say, I hope this first edition sells well so that there will be others in the future. An excellent companion to The Comprehensive Guide to Soviet Orders and Medals. Congratulations to Paul Schmitt for an excellent effort that will go a long way toward advancing the hobby and furthering the knowledge of this period in history.

All the best,

Doug

To all:

Given this, I'm certain it's worth every penny of its $75.00 cover price.

Thanks for the compliments everyone and a big thank you for everyone that contributed to it. I trust you won't be disappointed. Get your stuff ready for the next volume.

For the last three weeks I've been running around central Asia and don't know when this will end (I've been told at least through the summer). Gerd, empty your mailbox and maybe you'll get a reply from me - I tried three times.
Take care,
PJS

I've just sent off payment for a copy of Paul's book this morning, and I'm really excited to have a look at it! One can never have enough reference books, in fact, I'm going to have to make a seperate "Soviet" shelf for my books on Soviet militaria.
