Submarine badge

Hi!
Can someone provide additional info on this submarine badge, from the Tadzjikistana Komsomolets? Is seem to de made from several parts and has beautiful red enamel. What is the value? It was attached to an admirals uniform that I got recently from the Baltics. Does anyone know anythíng about the submarine itself?

regards,
Patrik

Tretov,

This is one of many dozens of submarine and ship badges. They sell for $5-10. While some may be genuine - that is genuine badges issued by commanders without official Navy permission - many are fantasy items.

As for the sub. The picture should be clear enough to ID the type. Try to search for the Bellona Oragnisation website. They are a Norwegian NGO with the best public info on Soviet/Russian subs.

Well obviously the sub is Tadzjikistana Komsomolets.., I have seen many many with the same design, like Permskii Komsomolets, Novosibirii Komsomolets etc. I dont think this one is fantasy, since it is made from several pieces, is quite heavy and has monetni dvor screwback plate.

I will check Bellona, thanks for the tip!

Guys,

There are about 20 badges in the "Komsomolets" line, all of the same design. They are all fakes produced in the Baltic States. Dealer's price is $3-4. The reason I am so sure is because I was offered entire sets several times, and my supplier had actually admited that they were current production. I do not know if they are based on some badge that had actually existed.

Patrik,

By type I did not mean name. Tadzhikistan Komsomolets is just the name. There are many subs named komsomolets of many types. I meant is it an Oscar, Yankee, etc.

Alexei,

In addition to all these modern badges I have seen some older sub ones. But of course older could only be the eraly 1990s, it is hard to tell. In Ottawa I have some dated in the 1970s. But again, you can fake a date too.

Truth is I have never seen any indication that any of these ship badges are official. Nothing but the official long voyage badges.

Here is another one. It is similar to mine, although it looks crappy in the scan. What amazes me is that these are so well done, the detail of the sub is excellent, the red enamel and the gold letters are great, the badge has nice weight (not like the aluminia badges) .... Feels sad.

Shawn,

I've done some research on these badges - according to my submariner school mate, the Soviets never allowed any badges or arm patches, that would revel unit number or ship's name. Some of them had appeared only in the late 1980s and only as unoficial "Dembel" badges.

Alexei, That matches what I have heard too. The one I have dated in the 70s is not for a specific sub. It shows (if I recall correctly) a sub and a porpoise over the anchor.
