For those of us who don't know:

That's Marshal of Soviet Union Konstantin Rokossovsky, who was Polish Minister of Defense at some point.

He was Polish national.

In Poland he was usually considered more soviet than polish in spite of having polish father and spending childhood (and not only) in "Poland" (if such name can be considered valid at that time) and probably he felt himself more russian as well. From what I have heard (but I am too young to remember this, so can't tell if it's true) he did silly mistakes in polish and mainly because of this he was one of the favorite topics for political jokes. The fact is that he was removed in 1956, because his impopularity even amongst the army became visible. I would say he was more soviet Marshall of Poland than polish Marshal of the Soviet Union. And btw. funny thing is that he did not meet the requirements to became Marshall of Poland (Commander of victorious polish army), as he was not commander of any polish army in SU during the war (althoug there were independant polish units under his command). But of course I don't negate his achievements and after all there wasn't any better candidate.
And even more funny: He received his soviet awards as the Russian Konstantin Rokossovskiy and polish ones as Pole Konstanty Rokossowski.

Captain of the Guards Ruben Ruis Ibarruri HSU

Spanish Stalingrad HSU. Captain of the Guards Ruben Ruis Ibarruri

One of the groups was led by Capitain Ruben Ruis Ibarruri, the son of a Spanish heroine and anti-fascist activist Dolores Ibarryri.
In the dawn of the 24th August Germans launched an offensive. When the commander of the battalion was killed in the fighting Ruben took the command into his hands.
The German advance was stopped by the heavy fire by machine gun and Rifle Company and the Germans started to retreat.
Ruben Ordered the battalion to attack and he himself led the fighters.
More than one hundred German soldiers and officers died , cannons, machine guns and shells were left behind on the battlefield as they retreated in panic.
Ruben was seriously injured in the fighting. He was taken to a hospital on the left bank where he died on 3rd December 1942.

He was posthumously awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union.

Ruben Ruis Ibarruri

His grave is in the central park of Volgograd. I treid to explain to a few others on our last trip there who he was, but its a bit complicated to novices.

Ibarruri HSU

"For heroism shown by him in a struggle against the fascist aggressors, the worthy son of the Spanish nation was posthumously made the Hero of the Soviet Union".

Ruben Ruis Ibarruri and his Mother anti-fascist activist Dolores Ibarryri.
Dolores Ibarryri received the Lenin Peace Prize (1964) and the Order of Lenin (1965).
