Re: My newest purchase, a naval uniform.

Podpolkovnik is Lieutenant Colonel
Polkovnik is Colonel

Marc, forgive my ignorance. Are the award docs filled out to someone with the rank of Captain?

Does this line up with the rank of Senior Lieutenant mentioned in your post? (at least i think that's what Podpolkovnik means :o)

Any mention of this guy on Podvig??
Hi Tommy,

The numbers are in the award booklet (see page 1)

I think Podpolkovnik means lieutenant Colonel, not senior lieutenant

USSR,

How about some large, individual pictures of these medals?

Dagger looks legitimate. Very nice piece. I'm puzzled that you seem not be bothered if someone swapped original medals for replicas on a uniform that is extra special because the awards and uniform go together.

Re: My newest purchase, a naval uniform.

Were there any naval personnel who participated in the battle for Berlin?

I agree, it sounds strange. On the other hand, admiral Sergey Gorshkov for example, received the medal for the Capture of Budapest. Can't imagine a soviet fleet lying in the Donau between Buda and Pest...;)

Actually, Gosrhkov definitely earned the Capture of Budapest medal as part of the Danube flotilla. Many of its members were awarded with Ushakov and/or Nakhimov medals.

Re: My newest purchase, a naval uniform.

Ok, interesting! How could this navy lt Colonel been awarded the capture of Berlin medal? I know all kind of soldiers were fighting on the German side but did the soviets do that as well?
