Majsuradze, Aleksandr Petrovich, Senior Technical-Lieutenant, Road Construction

..well, almost. :)

The RS is a long service one (from 1954). The close-numbered wartime CSM medals from the set are kind of cool, the prikaz dates are a few months apart actually. The hero was a Sr "Technician-Lieutenant," overseeing bridge and railroad track construction for the troops.

Cheers, George

Re: "Straight Flush" RS and Double CSM Set

Thanks Bill. :thumbsup

What I'd like to know, without getting this gent's officer record card, is what he did after the war. He was a "technician-lieutenant" in the war due to attaining road building specialization previously. But according to his Military ID Booklet, it 1947 he transferred to the GSSR MVD--and earned his long service Star there. Now, I am pretty sure he was not a cop; I'd like to think he wasn't involved in building prison camps and things of that nature. What else did the MVD have jurisdiction over?

George

Re: "Straight Flush" RS and Double CSM Set

Taken from: Internal Troops - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The Internal Troops, full name Internal Troops of the Ministry for Internal Affairs (MVD) (Russian: Внутренние войска Министерства внутренних дел, Vnutrenniye Voiska Ministerstva Vnutrennikh Del; abbreviated ВВ, VV); alternatively translated as "Interior (Troops or Forces)" is a paramilitary gendarmerie-like force in the now-defunct Soviet Union and its successor countries, particularly, in Russia, Ukraine, Georgia and Azerbaijan. Internal Troops are subordinated to the Internal Affairs Ministries (police) of the respective countries. They were used to support and reinforce the Militsiya, deal with large-scale crowd control, internal armed conflicts, prison security (except in Russia) and safeguarding of highly-important facilities (like nuclear power plants). As such, the force was and is involved in all conflicts and violent disturbances in the history of the Soviet Union and modern Russia, including Stalin's mass deportations, imprisonments and executions and the First and Second Chechen Wars.

During wartime, the Internal Troops falls under Armed Forces military command and fulfill the missions of local defence and rear area security."

Maybe he was responsible for building and guarding railroads...........that took people to the Gulag or carried important state materials like nuclear weapons, etc ??????

His first citation for a Medal "For Combat Merits" which actually is for the higher numbered of the two Medals.

His second citation, 3 months later, for the earlier numbered Medal.

His Bravery citation can not currently be located and it is not on his record card, not a very usual award to an officer that late in the war.
