It seems to indicate he was some kind of Scientific Designer/Researcher i think.

Dated 1976, its in line with the occupation in his part membership booklet.

So as well as a scientist, he was a stamp collector!

"Guards junior sergeant Vertebny, Yuri Pavlovich serves as motor mechanic of aviation for the third Aviation Division , He has participated in the Patriotic War since August 1942, in the southern part of Stalingrad, 4th, 1st and 3rd Ukrainian Fronts. He took part in the heroic defense of Stalingrad.

Comrade Vertebny during his time in 117 Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment from April 1944 together with the mechanic served 130 aircraft sorties, of which 20 flights were handled on his own in the absence of a mechanic. Along with excellent work on the material, Comrade Vertebny also partakes in guard duty for the vigilant protection of the material in the territory of foreign countries and has the gratitude from the Command of the squadron and regiment.


Born in 1925, a non party member, Ukrainian, drafted into the Red Army Stalingrad RVC. Home address: -"

He belonged top the "Educational workers of the higher schools" - sugests a university-grade school teacher.

That "other ID" indicates his ocupation as "project commissar", whatever that means.

He came a long way Stalingrad! Feom working as an aviation mechanic to being a higher education teacher, I imagine he was naturally gifted with all things technical.

Tommy the first green doc is his trade union membership booklet, not the CPSU one; nevertheless this is a nice group! The CSM citation comes from Podvignaroda?

Yes the citation is on Podvignaroda, unfortunately the medal & medal booklet weren't included in the group whem I bought it though. Thankfully name and DOB was enough to help me track it down :).

Kamil, I've been searching the net to see if i can find any more info on this man and i've found he applied for loads of patents!!!
