I am not sure if this variety has been discussed here, it's one not in the red bible nor on the mondvor site--but it's widely acknowledged in Russian forums etc.

This one is what's called the "screwed in ring" variety. The ring of the medal is actually an eyelet with a rod that was inserted into the medal, and the whole thing was then soldered. It's a bit obscure and found mostly in the 2.4M range, though some have been seen as early as 1.92M and as late as 3.2M.

Here's a nice example that still has the original ribbon cover as well! I have another one in the same range that I need to photograph.
