Blue Cross Firefighters Society -- 1897
I believe this to be the Blue Cross Firefighters Society badge shown in Avers 5-I (2001), page 328, item 362. It is the silver and gold variant.
Six parts , plus the screw post. The cross itself is silver, with proof and hallmark on the reverse. The gold pieces that are visible on the obverse are actually four individual pieces that have been attached (braized?) to the cross. The bottom anchor piece is proofed (56) and hallmarked. The enamel is the so-called "French" type, opaque and thick blue. The screw plate is hallmarked silver. I brought some nice pieces back with me this last trip. I'll try to share a few more over the next few days. Last edited by Chuck In Oregon; 04-30-2005 at 07:34 AM. Reason: spelling |
