Doug,

Many thanks for taking the time to answer so comprehensively to my post.

This is really a great great program you propose. I'll do my best. I will document myself about all these places before going.

Again, many thanks for your help.

Cheers.

Ch.

Christophe,

The Kirov appartment-museum is really worth it (on Kanennoostrovskiy). The Museum of Political History is, in my opinion, really interesting too, lots of memorabilia, Lenin's office, etc
Across from the admiralty, there is also the Milicia Museum; it's a very small museum (3 or 4 rooms), but plenty of things to see, including Dzerzhinsky's office.
As you'll be there during the White Nights Festival, an evening at the Marinskiy Theater is a must. If you can manage with the language, make sure to explain that you live there, so you get local prices. An alternative (if booked out or too expensive) is the Musorgsky Theater, much cheaper but basically same performance quality. Avoid the Alexandrovsky Theater off Nevsky, at that time of the year it is the worst tourist trap (crappy performances for rich westerner's prices).

Go to the Leningrad History Museum. It is very small but there is a very interesting exposition on the city blockade. I was almost alone with my girlfriend out there. I guess there were more people working there than visitors. It is very interesting. Can't remember exactly where it is, it is written in the Lonely Planet.

Thanks Bryan,

I think it is the same... as I find no mention of a Leningrad History Museum. And the State Museum of the History of St Petersburg seems quite different and not focused on the city blockade.

Thanks again.

Cheers.

Bryan.

It is next to the St Pantaleimon bridge, accross the Fontanka from the Summer Palace.

Christophe,

I forgot to mention, go to the Cathedral of Kazan (on Nevsky at Canal Griboedova), Kutuzov is buried inside, and it is a very nice building too.

Oh, I forgot to mention that if you go to the Museum of the Defence and Blockade of Leningrad, everything is written in Russian. We made the tour of the museum and at the end we found out that if you ask at the information they can provide you a book with all translations in English.

Ch.

don't forget to visit Piskariovskoye Memorial Cemetery; very moving. You might get lucky and be there when a wedding stops by.
