Medal "For The Coronation Of Knjaz Alexander Battenberg".

The Medal "For The Coronation Of Knjaz Alexander Battenberg" (Медал „За Възшествието На Княз Александър Батенберг") was issued on 8th July 1879 to "participants" in the royal crowning of Knjaz Alexander. I believe that the Knjaz personally handed out around 200 of these Medals to dignitaries attending the event. Although Alexander was of a German dynasty he was the nephew of the liberating Emperor Alexander II of Russia and "hand-picked" to rule Bulgaria with Russian interests.

Here is a miniature of this Medal which measures 14.3mm by 1.1mm. Due to the fact that the wearing of miniatures was not fashionable with Russians or Bulgarians at the time it is likely that this was made for a German or Austro-Hungarian who were in the minority during the events of the day. This particular miniature may have been a unique bespoke item or possibly a unique survivor.
