Munkasor Commemorative Medal.

Anyone have any idea what this is or its value? My guess is some kind of partisan or peoples uprising commemorative award.

Thanks in advance!

Re: What is this? Partisan?

Paul,

It's a Workers' Militia (Munkasor) Commemorative Medal from 1964. The Munkasor was founded in the late '50's (after the '56 revolution) primarily to guard the country's means of production. Not simply security guards (which operated as individuals), the Munkasor were militarily trained, regimented and armed, they were Hungary's "national" guard... very much like the DDR's Kampfgruppen and Romania's Patriotic Guard.

Unfortunately, the medal isn't a high dollar item- they made a lot of them and they are readily available.
