Hello Forum,

Does anyone know circa what year the ribbon holders (kolodka) went from the 2 piece I see on older pieces to a 1 piece design?

Is this even definable?

I did search in the forum and I didnt find anything. Perhaps I am typing wrong words.

My thoughts as well. It seems the higher awards kept the two-piece suspension a bit longer than the others, maybe. ?)

It was around 1948 that awards gradually started getting aluminium suspensions. As a rule of thumb, orders always had suspensions with front plate (all the way up to 1991), medals had single suspensions (except for before 1948, when they often had a steel or brass suspension with front plate).

The ribbons that I have seen worn on service uniform jackets have always bee of the sewn-on style, with the ribbons either flat or rounded.

I'm wondering whether pin-back ribbon sets were ever worn on uniforms or the gymnasterka? It seems that I recall seeing photos recently here on the forum of pin-back ribbon sets being worn on the wave blue dress jackets in some photos.

Does anyone happen to know what the regulations were on this point?

Ribbons were worn on the parade uniform when used as a parade-walkout uniform. I do not know if the regulations were so specific as to whether the ribbons should be sewn-on or made from metal with separately attached ribbons, but at least the plastic covered metal backed cloth ribbon bars were used for civilian clothing only.

In his recent book, Streather states that regulations called for the ribbons to be sewn-on, but I would not really want to make such categorical statements.

I shall freedly admit to having an inter-holiday "stupid moment", but I need help from the Assembled Wise Ones.

As part of a trove of ribbons (mostly PDRA) that I was directed to by a helpful forum comrade (thanks again!), some mysteries were included. I know that I recall seeing som of these somewhere, but the synapses are not connecting. Help!!

All are the standard 24-mm "Soviet" width. I have numbred them (1-16) for "easy" reference.

No uniform regulations I have read seem to state which style is correct. The sewn-on ones look better, but the pin-back ones are more practical - the ribbons were to be worn on firld, every-day and walking-out uniforms, so one would need three sets of them, and since many servicemen had only one uniform as parade/walking-out it would be hard for them to remove the sewn-on ribbons every time they needed a parade uniform (with the actual awards).
