Brief description of personal feat In the battles for the break-through across the German defense line on the Western border of SHTALLUPENEN, on the perimeter of action of the 3rd Guards Rifle Corps, in the region of SHVENTAKEMEN-KIAULYAKEN, Lieutenant IVAKHNENKO I.N. thanks to his great commander qualities, organization and operational skills managed to establish clear and uninterrupted connection during the combat. Telephone operators of his unit, as he himself, demonstrated examples of excellent skills, courage and bravery. With his personal example and demand from subordinates he trains his operators. While setting up the communication line he always personally examines the area in the direction of the connection line and right there, during the combat while setting up the communication he teaches his subordinates how to set up the connection line in a faster and better way and to preserve it from breakages. During the actual combat moments, when the connection was cut off due to the enemy’s firing, Lieutenant Ivakhnenko I.N., while located at the communication post or unit rapidly reestablished the connection, replacing the damaged telephone connection–radio connection during the breakage. During the pursuit of the enemy, when the battle formation of our brigade was changing quickly, he managed to provide clear and continuous communication between the brigade’s headquarters and the division commanders. He deserves the governmental award, order of the "RED STAR". Commander of the Batteries’ Control Senior Lieutenant (Signed) / Bublik / 24.1.45 Last edited by ECD3; 04-27-2009 at 05:50 PM. Re: Red Star,1056845
Nice citation,
I think I found the village of "SHTALLUPENEN". It is in eastern Prussia, about 100 km eastward of Königsberg. The real german name was Stallupönen. Maybe you can post the original citation with the russian writing and we can see if these matches. Todays russian name of Stallupönen is Nesterow. see picture. Landkreis Stallupönen – Wikipedia regards Andreas Last edited by Alfred; 04-28-2009 at 04:12 AM. |

Re: Red Star,1056845
Here is the original citation. I too was curious as to where this was, but my brief search returned nothing. If this is the same village as in the citation, then that answers a lot of riddles I was plagued with, :).

Re: Red Star,1056845
Here is the city name (see picture).
As there is no "ö" in the russian language it is quite possible that "Stallupönen" is the city. I´m 95%sure. This is quite tricky as many of the little villages and cities in the Kalingrad region were renamed in 1938 by the Nazi to more german sounding names. So in 1938 "Stallupönen" get the new german name "Ebenrode" and in 1945 the name was changed by the Red Army in Nesterow. Maybe the Red Army used old maps printed before 1938 with the old city names, so it is possible that the region "SHVENTAKEMEN-KIAULYAKEN" get also in 1938 new German names. At the moment I have no refence book available I will look up were the 3rd Guards Rifle Corps was in beginning 1945 and we can see if the region matches. Than we are sure it is the right city. best regards Andreas Last edited by Alfred; 04-28-2009 at 04:42 AM. |

Re: Red Star,1056845
I think I found the other two villages: SHVENTAKEMEN-KIAULYAKEN
So KIAULYAKEN it is in the same administrative district as "Stallupönen" KIAULYAKEN - till 1938 Kiaulacken und since 1938 the german name was Quellbruch (no clue what the russian name today is) in 1939 Kiaulacken had 98 inhabitants so these are very small villages hard to find. best regards Andreas |
