If awards were like candy...

Sometimes i wish this were true!

I quite like the idea of asking for a $30 mix or a $200 mix and seeing what you were given!

For someone like me who has a very small collection, it would be cool cos everything i got i'd be excited about, whereas the guys who already have pretty much "1 of each" i imagine it wouldn't be as cool!

Anyway sweets make you fat and ruin your teeth, so maybe medals should stay as they are haha.

Its a boring day in my life today if you haven't already guessed.

Anyway, hope all you guys are well!

Tom

Re: If awards were like candy...

I've certainly bought awards by weight before. It always depends on what you want as to what your options are. Sometimes you can get large boxes or bags of somewhat "unseen" items and take your chances. Sort of like Kiloware of the stamp collecting hobby (although I used to buy by the stone). I've seen plenty of Soviet tourist Badges offered up in the 10,000s but they are also of limited appeal and very low monetary value (often far less than transport cost). I've bought Russian Federation, Bulgarian People's Republic, DPR Korean and Soviet items (of nations covered here) by weight before and it usually turns out really well (and the results are shown on this forum). You can usually get a really great deal when you say "I'll take everything".

There are still warehouses of unissued surplus that will be available to purchase in bulk. It's all about right place at the right time but if you are too focused on one thing you may miss great opportunities elsewhere. Patience and flexibility are great traits to have whilst collecting. Also remembering that no-one ever has nor ever will have one of everything. Chase the dragon but you'll never catch it!

Re: If awards were like candy...

I just think it'd be cool to say to X dealer, here's s $100, I like labour things this month and then 2 weeks later you got a parcel with say a distinguished labour medal, red banner of labour and a couple of shock worker badges.

I understand the un-feasibility of it, due to clients going back to dealer X and saying, this is only worth $75 where's the rest and it places too much effort on the dealer when its not their place to say what i should spend my money on

Just sometimes i have those days where i have a couple of pounds to spare and rather than shopping around, id like someone to just take my money and give me something cool for it!

... Actually, im just being lazy aren't i?

To get the best deals you have to do the legwork, my shoes are done!
