In your opinion, what is the nicest, most detailed, colorful, beautiful Order, Medal, Badge of the former USSR that you have or want?

Re: Nicest/Most Detailed Order or Medal
All of them (if genuine). I like the nice simple non-Russian pre-Patriotic War unaffordable pieces. Can't go wrong with the Red Star no matter when.
The Medal "For Labour Valour" also has a lot going for it. Some of the later Badges were pretty poor quality but fortunately the quality of the Orders and Medals never became poor, unlike other Communist nations (Looking at Albania and the DPRK). Looking beyond Soviet awards, anything made by the Soviets for their allies was always top notch. Give me a Soviet Made DPRK Order Of The National Flag to add to the pile any day!

The one I have: ORBL.
The one I want: ORB. Those two are the "preciouses" imo.

One that I have: Order of the Red Star - always my favorite.
One that I would like to have: Order of Friendship of Nations. I will probably never have one, but I like it anyway. |

Early stuff, for sure...the Republican Orders, awards to commanding staff (Suvorov, Kutuzov, etc), and of course the ORBL-Triangle. Still waiting for that winning lottery ticket.

Re: Nicest/Most Detailed Order or Medal
Early stuff, indeed. And I agree about the early RBL (although I like the Russian one better).
But this is asking two very different things: "nicest" and "most detailed". They aren't teh same. The frindship order is detailed, too detailed by my pewrsonal aesthetics, almost baroque. But, in reality, I'd go for the first Mongolian civil valor order (called RBL by some). (But, for simple elegance, a Sukhbaatar any day!) |
